Three Key Variables Affecting Lead Time
Lead time is not a single number but consists of three segments: material procurement, machining and inspection, and shipping and transportation. If the material is a common aluminum alloy or stainless steel specification, procurement is usually faster; if special specifications or specific bar stock supplier lead times are required, the lead time will be extended. Machining days depend on part complexity and whether processes such as 5-axis or Swiss-type sliding headstock machines are needed; first article runs for five-axis and mill-turn parts typically require longer setup time. The inspection process includes incoming, in-process, and final pre-shipment inspection, and this time should also be included in the overall delivery schedule.
Items Buyers Should Proactively Confirm When Requesting a Quotation
Whether the factory procures the material
Confirming whether the material is purchased by the supplier or provided by the buyer directly affects procurement time and cost structure.
Lead time difference between first article and mass production
The trial production stage includes CAM programming, setup, and first article inspection, so lead time is usually longer than for repeat mass production orders.
Shipping method and quotation terms
EXW, FOB, or CIF change the allocation of shipping responsibility and freight calculation, so this should be specified on the RFQ.
Packaging and anti-rust treatment requirements
Sea freight takes longer, so if parts require anti-rust or special packaging, this should be communicated in advance to avoid affecting the delivery schedule.
Actual Impact of Taichung's Geographic Location on Logistics
Yuan Shun Li is located in Tanzi, Taichung, near Taichung Port and Taichung International Airport (Qingquangang), which are the main gateways for precision parts exports from central Taiwan. Compared with factories in the north, the overland distance to Taichung Port is shorter, which positively supports sea freight scheduling; for air freight, Taichung International Airport provides international cargo services and can serve as an alternative to Taoyuan Airport in the north. When evaluating suppliers, buyers should include the inland transportation time from the factory to the port or airport in their calculations, as this is a factor that is often overlooked but actually affects delivery time.
